Sydney Anaesthetic Services is a select group of specialist Anaesthetists based in Sydney, New South Wales. We have been assisting our surgical colleagues with the provision of high-quality anaesthetic services since 1996. Sydney Anaesthetics currently serves over 50 anaesthetists, all of whom may work in Sydney metropolitan and NSW country hospitals. The anaesthetists within the group all operate as individual practitioners; this means there are differences between how each anaesthetist works and bills. Our offices are open between the hours of 8.30am and 5.00pm, and can be found at Suite 3, 100 Alexander Street, Crows Nest NSW 2065.

Having obtained his medical degree in Sydney, Dr Bridgland spent five years training in Portsmouth, Southampton and Cambridge in the United Kingdom where he obtained the Specialist Qualification in Anaesthesia. During his time in Cambridge, he completed a Master’s thesis into the human factors associated with anaesthesia monitoring. Returning to Australia Dr Bridgland added
the Australian Anaesthesia Specialist Qualification whilst undertaking further training at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney. Currently a Visiting Specialist at North Shore Private Hospital, The Mater Hospital, Delmar Private Hospital and The Northern Beached Hospital.
Married with three daughters, Dr Bridgland enjoys competitive mountain biking, bushwalking and of course attending end of year dance concerts.

Dr Byrne is a Senior VMO Anaesthetist with appointments at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and private hospitals including Strathfield Private, The Mater, North Shore Private and Sydney Southwest Private Hospital.
Dr Byrne completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1993 and was awarded Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2004, after working as a resident doctor at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and then undertaking specialist training in anaesthesia, primarily at Concord and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals.
Dr Byrne has extensive experience in anaesthesia for complex abdominal and pelvic surgeries including liver transplantation, urological, colorectal and gynaecological malignancies and obstetric anaesthesia.
Dr Byrne is a member of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists and maintains up-to-date Continuing Medical Education through the ANZCA CPD program.

Following school, I completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy, at Monash University, in 2008 following which I worked as a pharmacist. At that point I decided to pursue medicine and completed my medical degree at The University of Sydney in 2013. I then underwent my general medical training at Nepean Hospital during 2014 and 2015. In 2016 I worked in intensive care and in operating theatres as a senior resident at Royal North Shore Hospital. I then completed my formal anaesthetic training from 2017 to 2021 also at Royal North Shore Hospital.
I currently work as a specialist anaesthetist primarily at North Shore Private Hospital, The Mater Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital and Sydney Adventist Hospital.

Dr Mark Donnelley MBBS FFARACS FANZCA is a Specialist Anaesthetist working in Private Practice. Most of his time is spent at The Mater, Chatswood Private and North Shore Private Hospitals.
Dr Donnelley works in all areas of anaesthesia but does most of his work in Neurosurgery, Endoscopy, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics and Colorectal surgery.
Dr Donnelley graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from The University of Sydney in 1983. He went on to train in anaesthesia at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and St Thomas' Hospital, London and completed his Fellowship Year at The Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston (Harvard Medical School).
He then spent three months working at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Pain Unit.
On returning to Australia, Dr Donnelley worked as a Visiting Medical Officer at Prince of Wales Hospital, a position he held for about twenty years.
He has previously been Chairman of the North Shore Private Anaesthetic Department, been a member of the North Shore Private Hospital Medical Advisory Committee and held a significant role in the management of his group, Sydney Anaesthetics Pty Ltd.

Dr Fynn is a specialist anaesthetist who has been in practice in Sydney for nearly 20 years. She was born in Scotland and obtained her medical degree at Dundee University. She was recruited by the NSW Department of health and came to Sydney where she completed her Australian fellowship in anaesthesia (FANZCA) in 1999, in addition to her British fellowship (FRCA).
She has special interests in womens health, urology and ophthalmic surgery and strives to provide safe, caring, holistic health care in the perioperative setting. She is an adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame, Australia and is a member of the Australian Society of Anesthetists and the Day Case anesthesia Special Interest Group. She has full specialist registration with the NSW medical board and lives in Sydney with her 3 children.

Dr Craig Garfinkel obtained his medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 1996. He worked as an intern and junior medical officer in Johannesburg before moving to Australia in 1999.
After spending time working in Melbourne and Sydney he began his specialist training in anaesthesia at Royal North Shore hospital in 2003. In 2007 he completed his Anaesthetic Fellowship (FANZCA) and began working as a staff specialist at Royal North Shore the following year.
Dr Garfinkel joined Sydney Anaesthetics in 2013 and also holds a public appointment as a visiting medical officer at Royal North Shore, where he is involved in the training of anaesthetic registrars.
His areas of interest include anaesthesia for neurosurgery and complex spine surgery as well as ENT, plastic and orthopaedic surgery.
When not at work, Craig enjoys playing golf, spending time with his wife and two boys and planning his next travel adventure.

Dr Callum Gilchrist is an Australian-trained Anaesthetist with major subspecialty interests in providing anaesthesia for Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery (ENT), Plastic Surgery and Interventional Neuroradiological Procedures. Within these subspecialties, safely anaesthetising children, providing total intravenous anaesthesia via target controlled infusions, and managing the difficult airway are areas of focus. His primary practice is within Royal North Shore Hospital, where he is the Supervisor of the Head and Neck, ENT, Dental Surgery and ECT Specialised Study Unit within the ANZCA training program Curriculum.

Dr Hendy is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. This means that, following the university medical degree, and three years of basic hospital training, he has successfully completed the further five years of training and examinations required to obtain the qualification of Specialist in Anaesthesia. He has been in full time specialist practice since 1987 and has wide experience in a variety of types of anaesthesia and resuscitation. Considerable time and effort is also spent staying abreast of new developments in anaesthesia and Dr Hendy participates in his professional College’s “Continuing Professional Development Programme. Dr Hendy is experienced in anaesthetising children, and is a member of SPANZA (Society for Paediatric Anaesthesia in New Zealand and Australia).

He was awarded Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) in 2011.

Dr Stefan Liew is a specialist anaesthetist with a busy practice on the north shore of Sydney. He provides services for orthopaedic, ophthalmic, vascular, ear nose & throat, gastroenterology and obstetric procedures.
Stefan graduated in medicine from the University of Tasmania in 1997, he moved to Sydney soon after and completed his anaesthetic training at Royal North Shore Hospital in 2005. Dr McArtney completed his medical degree in New Zealand in 1998, before moving to Sydney in 2000. After training in Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care he completed his Anaesthetic training at the Royal North Shore Hospital. He became a fellow of the Australasian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2011.
Dr McArtney is appointed as a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Ryde Hospital and the Hawkesbury Hospital. He is also accredited at various private hospitals across Sydney. From a sheep farming background in the deep south of NZ , I was lured to the academic halls of the University of Otago where I studied Zoology for a science degree. After a year of global wandering I returned to the U. of Otago and completed my medical degree. Two years of hospital residency followed by two years as a peripatetic GP locum, mostly in Australia, led to my departure for Plymouth, England and the commencement of anaesthesia training. My specialist training was completed in Newcastle, Australia where I worked in VMO practice for five years before moving to Sydney in 1995. Here I have been a VMO at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and at numerous private hospitals around the city. I have been an associate of the Sydney Anaesthetics Group since its formation in 1996.

Dr Lachlan Nave is an Australian trained specialist Anaesthetist. He completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) at Melbourne University in 2003 and subsequently graduated Medicine (MBBS) at the University of Notre Dame in 2010. Dr Nave completed his specialist Anaesthetic training at Royal North Shore Hospital in 2019. During this time Dr Nave also worked for Careflight and Sydney HEMS, responsible for the stabilisation and transfer of critically ill patients.
Dr Nave is involved with the Royal North Shore Anaesthetic Allergy Clinic, which is the main referral centre for investigation of Anaesthetic anaphylaxis in NSW.
Dr Nave is heavily involved in education and teaching of junior doctors and trainee anaesthetists. He also works as an instructor at the Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre providing simulations and education in anaesthetic emergencies.

Dr Nathan Royan graduated from Medicine (MBBS) at University of New South Wales in 2006. He completed his Anaesthetic training at Royal North Shore Hospital in 2014. Nathan underwent further fellowship training with a Clinical/Research Fellowship in Neuroanaesthesia (brain and spine) at Toronto Western Hospital in 2016/2017.
Dr Royan has special interests in neuroanaesthesia and regional anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery. He is passionate about teaching and research and has formalised these with a post-graduate certificate in clinical education and with published research in the area of anaesthesia for intraoperative neuromonitoring.
Nathan is a strong advocate for patient care and safety and continually strives to improve his patient's perioperative experiences and outcomes.

He has also worked at St Thomas’ Hospital London where he participated in a wide range of anaesthesia sub-specialties. Following graduation from his anaesthetic training he worked as a Staff Specialist at Westmead Hospital for several years before working as a Visiting Medical Officer at Prince of Wales Hospital and in Private Practice. Dr Smith is married with 4 children. His interests outside of anaesthesia include running, art and computer programming. He is a keen amateur musician.

Doctor Arpit Srivastava is a specialist anaesthetist, and currently Director of Cardio-thoracic Anaesthesia at Royal North Shore Hospital and Co-Chair of the Anaesthesia Perioperative Care Network within the Agency for Clinical Innovation.
He currently holds appointments at Royal North Shore Hospital, North Shore Private, Sydney Adventist and Mater hospitals.
He attended the University of New South Wales, completing his medical degree in 2002. His anaesthetic training was completed at Royal North Shore Hospital. Following attainment of a Fellowship of the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, he completed sub-specialty training in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Echocardiography at St Vincent's Hospital.
Dr Srivastava's scope of practice includes Cardio-thoracic Surgery, Breast and Endocrine surgery, and Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery. This experience encompasses adult and paediatric patients.
He has a keen interest in quality improvement in peri-operative medicine, and has presented on these topics at regional and national meetings. He is also strongly involved in the education of future anaesthetists.

Dr Arun Thiagarajan is an Australian-trained Anaesthetist based in Sydney. He received his MBBS from the University of NSW and initially pursued a career in Paediatrics and Neonates, working in several Paediatric units in Australia and the UK. He moved to training in Anaesthesia and completed his training through the St George Hospital program with a Specialist Fellowship in Paediatric Anaesthesia at the Childrens Hospital at Westmead. He gained his registration with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2010.
Dr Thiagarajan currently undertakes anaesthesia in several major hospitals in Sydney including North Shore Private, Sydney Adventist, Macquarie University, St George Private, Hurstville Private and Westmead Private hospitals, and several day surgeries. He is involved in surgery in several specialties including orthopaedics, breast surgery, general surgery and urology but has a particular interest in paediatric and ENT surgery which forms a large portion of his workload. He is particularly interested in the perioperative process involving children and is focused on making this as smooth as possible.
